Delta 8 THC is a milder form of THC, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis. It produces similar effects to delta-9 THC, such as euphoria, relaxation, and possible pain relief, but is much milder. Consumers should be aware that delta-8 products with THC have not been evaluated or approved by the FDA for safe use in any context. The FDA is concerned about the proliferation of products containing delta-8 THC and that are marketed for therapeutic or medical uses, even though they have not been approved by the FDA.
Delta-8 THC has psychoactive and intoxicating effects, similar to delta-9 THC. Compared to THC, delta-8 THC appears to provide similar levels of relaxation and pain relief, but with fewer cognitive distortions and less risk of distressing mental states. The effects of delta-8 are very similar to those of delta-9, but less potent. These effects include stress relief, euphoria, stimulating effects and sedation.
Delta 8 binds to CB1 receptors throughout the body, which helps regulate and maintain homeostasis. It can also reduce nausea while increasing appetite, reducing inflammation that causes pain and slowing tumor growth. While Delta 8 may be less effective at binding to CB2 receptors, it still binds to the CB1 receptor in the brain and produces a psychoactive effect.
