Can Hemp Extract Make You Fail a Drug Test?

Using hemp products containing THC or THCA could result in a false positive drug test in the urine. Hemp products should not contain more than 0.3% THC, however, there are mislabeled products on the market, so consumers should be careful. A routine drug test doesn't detect CBD, so using hemp oil or other related products won't result in a positive drug test. That said, the CBD industry is not strictly regulated in the United States and in Canada there is a large gray market.

Therefore, it's possible not to pass a drug test with a CBD product. The main purpose of drug testing is to detect the presence of one or more drugs in a person's urine, blood, saliva, hair, or sweat. These types of hemp products are generally treated to ensure that your final product does not contain THC. Or, if all else fails, play it safe with a topical CBD product, which is much less likely to put you at risk.

From the pharmacy shelf to the convenience store checkout counter, it seems that every retailer now offers a variety of creams, lotions and oils containing popular hemp products. In the many states of the U. S., CBD oil is legal but is flexibly regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Two women sued a CBD company because they alleged that the company's products caused them to fail drug tests.

The person requesting a drug test may request that CBD be added to the list of substances being tested. With the increasing popularity of hemp products on the market, consumers' concern about choosing the right product for you and avoiding any negative implications, such as a false positive on a drug test, is also increasing. While CBD is unlikely to give a false positive test for marijuana, there are a couple of exceptions to this rule that you should be aware of. You can fail a CBD drug test when it is assumed that CBD oil and other related hemp products do not contain THC.

We'll go back to explaining why you can still test positive with hemp oil or other similar products in a minute. Because drug tests cannot determine the source of the THC they detect, whether from a legal hemp and CBD product or from illegal marijuana, companies should not be allowed to use positive THC test results as grounds for dismissal. Your THC levels are unlikely to be high enough to result in a positive drug test, even if you use a lotion or balm with THC, but prevention is better than cure.
